American actress and producer Gail Ann O’Grady was born on January 23, 1963, and is most recognized for her work on television. Among them are the NBC series American Dreams’ Helen Pryor and the ABC police drama NYPD Blue’s Donna Abandando. O’Grady is nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards.

Early Life

O’Grady was born to Jim and Jan O’Grady in Detroit, Michigan. Raised in Wheaton, Illinois, she attended Wheaton North High School, where she received her diploma in 1981. In 1986, following her commercial appearances, she relocated to Los Angeles.

Career

O’Grady started out as a model for Montgomery Ward and later went on to act in commercials before appearing as a guest on a number of television programs. She made her big-screen debut in the movie She’s Having a Baby in 1988. Her big break came from playing Donna Abandando on NYPD Blue, where she was nominated for an Emmy every year from 1993 to 1996. She starred in television movies and independent films even after quitting the series in 1996.

O’Grady portrayed Helen Pryor in the movie American Dreams from 2002 to 2005. She also had several TV appearances, such as in Hot Properties, Two and a Half Men, and Desperate Housewives. She has appeared in many television shows, such as Monk, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

She played Angie Patterson in the 2019 Lifetime movie Identity Theft of a Cheerleader.
