Kiran Shah is a Kenyan-Indian star and a stunt double. He moved to India with his family when he was only 12 years old. While living in India, he became interested in films. When his family moved to Feltham, England, he became interested in show business. His first film was Norman Tokar’s film Candleshoe (1977), as a stand-in. When stunt coordinator Bob Anderson asked him to do stunts as well, it started his career. He played the part of Bolum in The People That Time Forgot (1977) in Kevin Connor’s film.
Career
Kiran Shah is usually confused with Deep Roy; they are both dwarf Nairobi-born Kenyan stars of Indian origin who got their leads in film and television in the late 1970s. He is the world’s shortest stuntman, according to the Guinness World Records. He has performed as an actor in 31 films; and 37 as a stuntman or body double.
He has been in several films including Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001), Superman II (1980), The Crucifer of Blood (1991), The Dark Crystal (1982), Alice in Wonderland (1999), Legend (1985), Aliens (1986), and The Sign of Four (1987).
Kiran Shah has appeared as a stunt double or stand-in in The Lord of the Rings (2001-03) and The Hobbit film series. He was the scale double for Elijah Wood as Frodo, though he duplicated for all the other main hobbits, being the only scale-double capable of stunts.
Shah doubled Bilbo Baggins as played by Martin Freeman (in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012), The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013), and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)) and Ian Holm (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001). He is one of only three actors to play the nominal character in The Hobbit films.
