Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli is a well-known Indian actress. She mostly works in Tamil and Malayalam films. A postgraduate in human resource management from the Madras School of Social Work, Chennai. She joined the English theatre company Evam as a full-time worker, before daring into the Tamil film industry. She is also a former India National Level cricket player and national Ultimate Frisbee champion.
Lakshmi Priyaa was born into a Tamil family. She completed her master’s in social work, trained in human resources, from the Madras School of Social Work. Later, she worked for a corporate company as an HR professional.
At age 10, she joined gymnastics and started playing cricket, becoming a part of India’s B national cricket team, under which she also played a series against the West Indies. She also pursues Ultimate Frisbee. A member of Chennai Ultimate Frisbee, she has regularly taken part in Ultimate Frisbee competitions.
While selling tickets for one of Evam’s plays, director Magizh Thirumeni contacted and asked her to play a supporting role in his 2010 film Mundhinam Paartheney as Prashanthi. She took allowance from work and shot for ten days for the film. After working with director K. Balachander on one of his teleserials, and auditioning for a role in the TV show, Dharmayudham, she pursued acting full time.
Lakshmi Priyaa left her job and attended several auditions for different roles in the show, eventually landing the role of Sharada. Her first film in a lead role was the black comedy Sutta Kadhai (2013). She played Silanthi in the film, which required her to perform stunts as well. The film received positive reviews on her performance.
Her sole 2014 release was Jean Markose’s Angels, which marked her Malayalam debut. Her next Tamil release was Kallappadam (2015). About her role as Leena, she said that it was a “well defined and powerful character” and “emotionally very strong”. She has also played great and prominent roles in films like Malupu (2015), Kalam (2016), and Maya (2015).
