Career Journey
He played his first-class debut in 2001-2002 for Western Australia and ODI in 2008. In the mid of 2007 and 2009, he performed as Australia’s second choice keeper and he has played many matches for Australia. Then he recruited in IPL for Mumbai Indians in 2007 he played five matches for the team, spread out in 2008 and 2009 seasons. He was nominated for the T20Is series against West Indies on the replacement of injured Brad Haddin. He played one T20I and 4 ODI matches after that he played more T20 International matches in 2009 against South Africa.
Not to get many opportunities ahead, Ronchi decided to move back his birthplace in February 2012. Then he included in New Zealand’s ODI and T20I teams. In May 2015, he has played his Test debut for New Zealand against England.
He was selected for the series against England after the amazing performance for New Zealand in 2013. He played many innings and back to back scored the Fifties against South Africa in 2014. He scored an unbeaten 170 runs on 99 balls against Sri Lanka in January 2015. He was the only player who has scored 150 in an ODI inning.
Ronchi initially proved his worth before the 2015 World Cup. New Zealand won a Historic World Cup in 2015 when they finished runners-up, the first example of a final making Kiwis in showpiece tournament’ history. After their defeat in the final to Australia. He has played Test matches for New Zealand in the same year. He was also part of the World T20 in India in the previous year.
Ronchi decided to announce retirement on 21 June 2017 from International Cricket. Then he decided that he will play the shortest format of the game like IPL, PSL, and NatWest T20 Blast, etc. He was the only player who represented two ICC Member nations.
After his international retirement, he signed to play in the NatWest t20 Blast 2017 for the Leicestershire county cricket club and had a successful series for him. He made a half-century on 19 balls in the 2018 Pakistan Super League for Islamabad United. He has nominated in the inaugural edition of the Global T20 Canada tournament for Edmonton Royals in June 2018. In September 2018, He has nominated to perform in the first season of the Afghanistan Premier League series for Kabul’s squad. In October, he nominated to play for BPL 2018-19. And has selected to play in the Euro T20 Slam tournament for Rotterdam Rhinos in July 2019. If he talks about his coaching career, he has appointed for fielding and wicket-keeping coach for New Zealand in April 2019.
