Mackenyu gained fame by playing the role of Arata Wataya in the Chihayafuru live-action trilogy which earned him the Japan Academy Newcomers of the Year Award in 2017.
His journey began in Los Angeles, where he was born to Japanese parents, Sonny Chiba and Tamami Chiba.
