Mehreen Jabbar is an American-Pakistani director and Producer of super hit films and TV serials with critical and commercial success. Short narrative of Mehreen has been aired intra-nationally and inter-nationally in many film festivals and on TV channels. She was born on 29 December 1971 in Karachi, Pakistan. She is a daughter of a famous Pakistani filmmaker, a former Pakistani senator, and a cabinet minister, named Javed Jabbar.
Mehreen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from Saint Joseph’s College, Karachi, after receiving a BA degree, she was sent to the US for the pursuit of her future. Where she studied film and received a two-year diploma certificate in Film, Television, and Video at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1993. With this certificate, she returned to Pakistan and started her career as a director and producer of dramas under the banner of TasVeer Productions.
Career Journey
She has several award-winning films and dramas, including “Daughters of the Late Colonel” which is first published in the London Mercury in May 1921. It film revolves around the story of a father and his two daughters.
“Daam” which is starred with Aamina Sheikh, Sanam Baloch, and Adeel Hussain and tells the story of two best friends of opposite status, “Beauty Parlor” starred with and revolves around the story of three women whose work in a beauty parlor and their engenders facets, and so on.

Achievements
In 2008 Mehreen made her directing debut in an Urdu-Pakistani feature film ‘Ramchand Pakistani’ starred with Nandita Das, Rashid Farooqi, Syed Fazel Hussain, Maria Wasti and Noman Ijaz as a lead actor. The film is based on the true story of a boy, who unintentionally crossed the border between Pakistan and India. His family has to go through many ordeals for him. It was an award-winning film and up to date has been won nine different national and international awards. This film was firstly premiered in a competition at the “Tribeca Film Festival”. Later on, this film was screened in the theater of many countries, such as Pakistan, India and the United Kingdom during the years of 2008 to 2009. This film has greatly succeeded with the huge critical and commercial acclaim. In 2010 Mehreen was invited to screen her film at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
In 2016, she directed her second debut in a feature romantic film “Dobara Phir Se” on ARY Digital. The film starred with Ali Kazmi, Hareem Farooq, Adeel Hussain, Tooba Siddiqui, Sanam Saeed, Atiqa Odho, Shaz Khan, and a child actor, Musa Khan which tells a story of revolves around a divorced Pakistani woman who lived in New York City and visits a Connecticut suburb to visit her estranged ex-mother-in-law.
This film was shot in New York and Karachi and had been screened in the theater of Pakistan, the USA, UK and the UAE in 2016.
Mehreen is also a social activist. He has been a member of the National Board of Film Censors in Karachi, Pakistan and a founder member of the NGO WAR (War Against Rape), a founding member of the KaraFilm Festival in Karachi. In 2012 she was honorably invited to the Maisha Film Lab, Uganda which is a non-profit training lab, founded by director Mira Nair. She is the recipient of several national and international awards for her work. She has also served as a jury person in many local and international film festivals.
“Ramchand Pakistani” wins FIPRESCI Award from the International Federation of Film Critics and receives Honourable mention by the 13th Annual Satyajit Ray Awards at the London Film Festival in 2008. She has won numerous award of Beast Director, such as Indus Drama Awards in 2004 for “Harja”, Kara Film Festival Award in 2001 for Best Director and Best medium-length Film for “Daughters of the Late Colonel”, 9th Lux Style Awards in 2010 for Best TV Director for “Doraha” and Pakistan Media Award in 2010 for Best Drama (Satellite Malay).
Despite this, she was also nominated for 10th Lux Style Awards in 2011 for Best TV Director for “Daam” and Hum Awards in 2012 for Best Director for “Mata-e-Jaan Hai Tu”.
