Ravinder Singh is professionally known as “Ravi” Bopara, is an English cricketer who plays country cricket for Sussex as well as representing England Cricket team in all the formats. He was born on 4th May 1985. Primarily, Bopara is a top-order batsman who turned him as an all-rounder by developing the medium-pace bowling skill. Bopara belongs to a Sikh family. He was attended Brampton Manor School, East Ham, and Landon. He next then jointed Barking Abbey School. Bopara jointed Frenford Clubs and started to represent Essex Boys and Girls Clubs at a very young age in their representative Under-14 cricket team. He has the record of the best bowling figures in Twenty20 International for England.

Career Journey

Bopara started his career to make his first-class debut, playing for Essex’s squad in May 2002. In 2003 and 2004, he played several matches for England U-19s, including in the 2004 U-19 Cricket World Cup. He reportedly bowled at a show on Radio 1 with DJ Greg James while playing for either Hainault or Wanstead and Clayhall Cricket club.

In the 2005 season of the U-19 Cricket World Cup, Bopara scored 880 runs in the first-class cricket match that also included his first century in the first-class debut. He has also hit 135 runs in a non-first-class cricket match against the Australia who was touring England. He also scored 270 runs with Alastair Cook in this series with Australia.

In 2006, Bopara was named in England A squad for the tour of the West Indies. At the same time, he was also selected for the series against Sri Lankans who would be touring England and Pakistanis in the summer of that year. In July, he was selected in England’s 30-man provisional squad for the 2006 Champions Trophy.

Additionally, Bopara has played for several T20 franchises during his career. He picked up for Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League and played for the same team for 2016-2019, but in the 2020 session of PSL, he was bought by the Multan Sultan team. He has also played for the Kings XI Punjab squad in the Indian Premier League for two years from 2009 to 2010 then he jointed Sunrisers Hyderabad for the session of 2015. He played for the Sydney Sixers in the 2013/2014 session of Big Bash League. He has also represented Chittagong Vikings squad in the 2012/2013 session, then Sylhet Super Stars in the 2015 session, Dhaka Dynamites squad in 2016, and finally Rangpur Riders since 2017 of the Bangladesh Premier League.

Bopara was for the first time called up to England’s squad for the One Day International cricket. The match was played against Australia on 2nd February 2007. In his second ODI, he got Man of the Match award in the 2007 Cricket World Cup by scoring 52 off 53 balls against Sri Lanka. After that, he appeared in a difficult Test match against Sri Lanka on a tour of England to Sri Lanka. That resulted to drop him in early 2008. He maintains his position in England’s Test squad again for a Test against the West Indies team in 2008–09.

Bopara came back with a strong position in the team that made him the fifth batsman who scored three back to back Test centuries for England. Despite these successes of Bopara, during the 2009 Ashes, Bopara was dropped out for the final Test match of the series. He was also the captain of Essex for the one day team at the start of the 2016 season.
