Samit Patel is a professional English Cricketer, was born on 30 November 1984 in Leicester who has its roots from Baroda, Gujrat, India. An attacking lower middle-order batsman and a left-arm orthodox spinner bowler. For Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, he plays outstanding cricket.

Career Journey

He represented England under 15, 17 and 19 sides in his initial career. For his good show in the Under-15 World Cup, he was also awarded the test match Special Young Cricketer of the year award in 2000. When he was just 14, he performed the first time for Nottinghamshire’s 2nd XI 2002. Since then, he went on to become a regulator in the countryside, both in the First class and doing A match List. In 2007, he scored 887 runs including four centuries in the County Championship and also played against Durham scored a century and three half-centuries in the 2009 county Championship.

In 2008, Patel named in First ODI against India and scored a ball a run 28 in response. Patel had the opportunity to represent England’s ODI team in 2008 when he was chosen to play against Scotland in August. Patel signed a three-year contract with Nottinghamshire in January 2010. Patel scored fewer runs 641 from 16 matches when Nottinghamshire won the County Championship in 2010 and became club’s 6th highest run-scorer in the year’ competition. His career was interrupted by an increasing waistline as he was abandoned for fitness reasons in 2009.

Samit Patel again came into the rocking as England gazed at the 2011 World Cup in the Subcontinent as his playing style suited the situation. However, Patel was forced to sit out of the squad and once again failed to prove his fitness. He comes back to the national squad after leaving England from the World Cup and was regularly present in the team since Sri Lanka’s tour of England in June 2011. At home ground, he played fewer ODIs against India.

He achieved his Test during his tour of England to Sri Lanka in 2012 and remained prominent in both games. He came back to the side again to visit India to play all three formats. He played the first three Test matches in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Kolkata respectively but was left out of the side for Nagpur-leg ahead of both T20 and 5-match ODI series. The lack of performance forced selectors to push him out of the side and never played ODI against India in Dharamsala since the one.

Patel performed in the two T20 international against New Zealand in 2013. Patel started a 2014 season decline with the bat, and the story continued in 2015, just for him to get an amazing call-up to the Test side for series against Pakistan in UAE. He remained prominent in the third and final Test in Sharjah, which Pakistan won, and since then Patel has never played Test cricket.

He was selected to play for Islamabad United in PSL 2018-19.  His named to play for the Rotterdam Rhinos in the inaugural edition of the Euro T20 slam cricket tournament in July 2019 and is playing for the Lahore Qalandar in PSL 2020.
