Sohail Tanvir who earned his position in the Pakistan National Cricket Team due to his outstanding unorthodox left-arm medium-fast bowling skill. Tanvir was born on 12th December 1984 in Rawalpindi and Punjab. He is mainly an all-rounded bowler and a hard-hitting left-handed batsman but occasionally can bowl left-arm orthodox spin.
Career Journey
Tanvir’s got an opportunity to play in Pakistan’s squad when Shoaib Akhtar was sent back. He recognized himself as an all-rounder in his first Twenty20 debut in the World Twenty20 tournament. In his first tournament, he played excellently and took 6 wickets in six matches against Australia with the best bowling figures of 3 for 31 in only 4 overs.
After being the success story in the ICC World Twenty20 tournament, he was next then selected for the ODI series, played against South Africa in October 2007. His next match was an ODI series while the touring of India where he took 8 wickets in this series.
In this tour, on 22nd November 2007, Tanvir also played his first international Test cricket as a replacement for Umar Gul. The match was carried out at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi where he took three wickets of Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid.
In June 2008, in the Asia Cup, Tanvir set up a score of 100 runs standing alongside Fawad Alam for the 8th wicket of Pakistan against Hong Kong at Karachi. In that match, he scored his career’s first maiden ODI half-century. Tanvir took his first 5 wickets to haul along with the score of 59 runs off just 55 balls in the match against Sri Lanka.
As concerned as the domestic career of the played in Pakistan. He has played in the 2016–17 Regional One Day Cup where he took the most wickets of 15. He has also named in Baluchistan’s squad for the 2018 Pakistan Cup, as well as in Punjab’s squad for the 2019 Pakistan Cup. In 2019, he was selected for the Northern’s squad to play in the 2019–20 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy tournament. Tanvir was the leading wicket-taker with fourteen dismissals in the 7 matches of 2019–20 National T20 Cup.
He has been playing PSL since 2016. In the first session of PSL, he was along with Karachi King. Next then played for Lahore Qalandars in the 2017 draft of PSL. In 2018, he then jointed Multan Sultans and then Quetta Gladiators in 2019. He came back to the Multan Sultans team in the 2020 draft of PSL.
