Cardinal is one of the greatest actresses of the Canadian television domestic– situation television genre. She does not seem wildly expressive, yet she can play emotional scenes, comedies, maternal, tragic, executive-female roles with hardly a change of expression, but with huge presence. How did someone from Northern Saskatchewan get such depths, style, wide ranging abilities? She is not ‘native’ first, she is wonderful actress, who happens to be indigenous…and has great resources of knowledge, human empathy and apparently, wisdom. She also seems ageless, has the same hard, knowing, wise look that she had as a young unknown actress. Good for CBC, celebrate her!
